     St. Paul United Church of Christ, Taylor, Michigan, is seeking a part-time Director of Music to lead both vocal and handbell choirs and to coordinate special music for Sunday morning services and other special occasions. The Director of Music also leads all congregational hymn singing and serves as a part of a Worship Planning Team along with the Senior Pastor, the Organist, and a group of active lay volunteers. 

    Candidates should have: 

    • A working familiarity with a wide range of traditional and contemporary Christian music; 

    • A commitment to faithful, dynamic, creative worship; 

    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, plus an understanding of their role as a ministry; 

    • At least 3-5 years previous experience as a director with a vocal choir; 

    • Handbell choir experience or a willingness to learn; 

    • A bachelor's degree or degree candidacy in music, or comparable training and experience. 

    Founded in 1883 at the same location, 24158 Goddard Road, one block west of Telegraph, St. Paul United Church of Christ is a 500 member worshipping community with roots in both the Lutheran and Reformed traditions. Serving the Downriver and Dearborn communities, the congregation has two Sunday morning services, September through mid-June, and a single service during the summer months. Choir performances are currently accompanied by organ, piano, digital piano, recorded music, and other instruments on a guest basis.
