Choral Music Education Scholarship Available

Is one of your students pursuing a degree in choral music education? Please share the following opportunity for a $10,000 scholarship paid in increments of $1,250 per semester for the duration of a 4-year college degree.

Eligibility requirements include the following which must be met or maintained:

Applicant must graduate from a MSVMA member high school.
Applicant must be enrolled in choral music education at an approved school (Click here for list of schools)
Scholarship recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain in good standing in their program as a full-time student.

Encourage the next generation of choral music educators to take full advantage of this opportunity. Application deadline is May 1, 2020 for the 2021-2022 academic school year. The recipient will be contacted by the middle of May and will be announced at the 2021 Summer Conference.

The Carolyn F. Leep Scholarship

Did you know that MSVMA awards scholarships to members pursuing an advanced degree or who wish to enroll in a non-degree choral music institute or workshop? Potential areas of study include choral conducting, composition with emphasis on choral/vocal music, vocal music education and church music with vocal/choral emphasis.

Applicants must have at least three years teaching experience in Michigan and be able to return to MSVMA activities after using the scholarship.
Applications are reviewed by the Carolyn F. Leep Scholarship Committee which is chaired by the past president. Have questions, contact markkrempski@msvma.org.

Application Deadline: April 15, 2021
Scholarship must be used by April 15, 2023

The Carolyn F. Leep Scholarship was established in 1988 in honor of Carolyn and her service to the Michigan School Vocal Music Association. As head of the Malecki Music Inc. Choral/Vocal Department, Carolyn worked tirelessly for 20 years to provide MSVMA members with materials to support their efforts as music educators.

MYAF 2021 is happening virtually this year!

We will feature some of our soloists and ensembles in recitals as well as the evening concerts like we have done in the past. All of our MYAF events will come from our virtual festival submissions, there won't be another separate MYAF Google Form for Outstanding Choirs like we have done in the past. While choirs are being submitted for comments only for our Virtual Choral Festival, adjudicators will still make recommendations for MYAF.

We're doing our best this year to keep our MYAF traditions by showcasing singers who participated in our virtual events.

The deadline to register for Virtual Choral Festival is March 15!

Registration Requirements

Students should be enrolled in grades 6 to 12 and be part of a member school's vocal music program.
Choirs typically must be comprised of 17 or more students. However, large ensembles (6-20 singers) are welcome to participate in the virtual choral festival this year.
The submission fee for each event is $25.
Fees are non-refundable.
No late registrations will be accepted.
On March 16, a Dropbox request for video submissions will be sent to paid registrants.
Video submissions are due by March 31.
